We are glad to announce the release of Cisdem Duplicate Finder for Windows version 5, which is powered by DINOv2 Small, an on-device deep learning vision model from Meta AI.

As we store more and more photos on our computers and cloud services, duplicates and similar photos have taken up storage space and caused disorganization. To help solve this, our AI-powered duplicate file and photo finder uses DINOv2 Small to intelligently analyze and compare photos, detecting similar photos more efficiently than ever.

"Traditional tools can only detect duplicate files and certain similar photos. With DINOv2-Small, Cisdem Duplicate Finder can recognize the actual objects and themes within photos in a way that wasn't possible before," said Adrian Li, Chief Engineer at Cisdem. "It picks up on subtle differences in objects, angles and lighting that traditional tools would miss."

Why this AI update matters

Traditional similar photo detection methods rely on fixed, preset rules. For example, histogram-based methods compare color distributions, and feature-based methods look at basic corners, edges, and textures. Unfortunately, these older methods may miss images with blank areas, smooth textures, or slight blur.

With version 5, we replace these traditional methods with Meta AI's DINOv2 Small model, which is trained on millions of images. Cisdem Duplicate Finder now recognizes advanced visual features, such as shapes, textures, object parts, and complex scenes. It analyzes images based on actual visual content and recognizes more similarities in a human-like way.

What does this mean for users? Thanks to this AI model, Cisdem Duplicate Finder can easily identify similar photos that older tools likely miss, such as:

  • Burst shots
  • Resized or compressed versions
  • Edited versions
  • Photos taken from different angles or lighting conditions

In our testing, version 5 detected 51.2% more similar photo groups compared to the previous version using the same photo collection under their respective default settings.

Because DINOv2-Small runs entirely on your computer, all image analysis and comparison stays 100% on-device. Your photos are never uploaded to any external servers. The app can also use your GPU for faster image comparisons.

Redesigned duplicate engine: Optimizes file analysis and comparison processes for faster scan times.

Optimized user interface: Enjoy a more user-friendly interface with dedicated scan areas for local/external folders and cloud services including OneDrive and Dropbox, scan histories, and a handy rescan feature.
