If you want to backup your contacts by using Contacts, you just need to launch this app on your Mac. And then click on "File" in the menu bar, and then select "Export...". Next, you have 2 choice. You can choose “Contacts Archive” when the menu expands, or you can select “Export vCard…”. Last, choose where you'd like to save the archive or vCard file, and then select Save.
